Cheques distributed among militancy affectees
BARA: The administration on Thursday distributed cheques among 1179 affectees whose houses were destroyed during militancy in Bara subdivision of Khyber tribal district.
The cheques worth Rs280.08 million were distributed at a ceremony held at Levies Centre in Shahkas area in Jamrud tehsil.
Member National Assembly (MNA), Bara, Iqbal Afridi, Deputy Commissioner Mahmood Aslam, Col Ishtiaq, officials, tribal elders and affectees attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mahmood Aslam Wazir said the owners of completely and partially destroyed houses were given Rs0.4 million and Rs160,000 each, respectively.
Aslam Wazir said the compensation cheques were granted to the affectees of Bara to help them rebuild their houses and resume a normal life.
The official said that compensation cheques would be handed over to other affected families belonging to Bara, including Tirah valley, in near future.
MNA Iqbal Afridi said the destroyed schools in the area would also be reconstructed soon. The tribal people rendered matchless sacrifices against the militants to pave the way for peace in the country, he said. “The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government has allocated billions of rupees for development projects in the tribal district,” the MNA said, adding, the government would not allow corruption in uplift projects.
