World Forests Day observed
LAHORE : Kinnaird College for Women celebrated the International Day of Forests on Thursday by organising a tree plantation campaign on the campus.
According to a press release the college’s Environmental Sciences Department in collaboration with National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) Rawalpindi organised and initiated the tree plantation campaign. A large number of students and faculty members participated in the activity. Principal Dr Rukhsana David, Vice-Principal Prof Dr Nikhat Khan and others planted saplings.
The principal commended the effort and urged students and faculty to plant more trees to promote green environment and help combat pollution in Pakistan.
tree plantation: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) on Thursday started plantation drive followed by the sanitation week at Lakhodair Landfill Site on Thursday.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Basharat Raja inaugurated the activity and planted a sapling. LWMC Managing Director Khalid Nazir and other officials were also present.
More than 6,000 saplings were planted. The students from Government College for Women, Islampura and Government Home Economics College for Girls joined the campaign and planted saplings with their names. The campaign was also backed by the local political leadership.
The minister said provision of clean and healthy environment to the citizens was one of the top priorities of the chief minister.
