Soomro plants sapling under one employee one tree drive

Federal Minister for Aviation and Privatisation Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) Muhammad Mian Soomro planted a sapling at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) on Monday under a one employee one tree plantation campaign as part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Clean and Green Pakistan Programme.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Officials said they were planning to plant around one hundred thousand trees in and around JIAP by the end of this year, adding that local indigenous tree species and fruit trees would be preferred.

Soomro said the New Aviation Policy 2019 was on anvil for the approval of the federal cabinet. “The new policy aims at sustainable growth in the aviation sector by rationalising CAA charges levied on operators and by offering them more incentives to ensure healthy competition and to providing more relief to passengers.”

He said rationalisation of different monetary charges would attract investors to start domestic airlines in the country which would significantly contribute to the economic growth of the country. He said that because of providing ease of doing business, various foreign airlines showed their interest to start operations in Pakistan and talks were continuing with them.

The aviation sector, including airlines, general aviation operators, ground handling companies, food vendors and oil firms, are participating in the plantation campaign to make the country free from the adverse impacts of climate change.

Deputy Director General Khawar Ghayas, Air Commodore Syed Nasir Raza Hamdani, Director Security Fazal-um-Minallah, Director Airport Services Sadiqur Rehman and other officers and staff of the PCAA were present on the occasion.
