KARACHI: Former Spain and Barcelona legend Carles Puyol on Sunday attended the closing ceremony of the Pakistan Super League held at here at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The 40-year old former Barcelona captain was brought into the venue amid tight security. Puyol was then also invited to the stage with a ball in his hands. He was extended a huge applause by the huge crowd.
He was then seen for quite sometime giving autographs to the people and making selfies. One of the finest defenders of his generation Puyol was also accompanied by the TouchSky Group chief Ahmer Kunwar. The Spanish had landed here on Saturday to do some promotion activities for the World Soccer Stars 2019, an event under which a couple of football matches involving global stars wool be held at Karachi and Lahore at the end of next month.
Puyol, who has played 100 matches for Spain, is the fourth global star who visited Pakistan during the last couple of months. Previously Brazilian star Kaka, former Portugal star Luis Figo and French player Nicolas Anelka visited Pakistan to do some promotions for the World Soccer Stars.
Puyol Sunday night was scheduled to return following his two-day visit of Pakistan. The captain fantastic also on Saturday launched ticket-sale of the World Soccer Stars 2019. Puyol, also the 2010 World Cup winner for Spain, has spent his entire professional career at his childhood club Barcelona.
