The Christchurch attack

March 17, 2019

Friday’s attack on two mosques in New Zealand killed at least 50 people and wounded 20. The gunman – identified as an Australian extremist – apparently live-streamed the assault on Facebook.

Violence against Muslims and dangers of white nationalism in the West are increasing at a rapid pace. Western countries ought to take steps to tackle this dangerous ideology.

The recent attack may help change the perception of the people and make them realise that terrorists have no religion. They are an enemy of humanity. To defeat terrorism is not an easy task and definitely not the responsibility of a single country.

All countries must stand united to eliminate terrorism from every corner.

The horrors of the Christchurch incident cannot be forgotten. A mosque is a place of worship where people feel safe. But the place saw brutal bloodshed. Some international media outlets did not call the culprit what he was: a terrorist.

The use of words like ‘shooter’ inadvertently trivialises the threat that Muslim communities in the West face. Appropriate action should be taken to tackle the situation.

The recent terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand has taken the entire world, especially the Muslim community, by surprise. New Zealand is considered to be the safest and most peaceful country in the world.

Muslims are being targeted across the globe and even the safest countries are unable to stop such atrocities. Still the entire world links Muslims with terrorism. The New Zealand authorities should give strict punishment to the attacker.
