A few days back, there was a shooting incident in Hayatabad, Peshawar where a judge was seriously wounded. It definitely was a horrific act and must be condemned by all. The police reaction, however, is unjustified and only adds to the misery of public. Phase 5 of Hayatabad has residences of government officials and senior and junior including some judicial officers. Now the police have closed almost all the roads passing through that area with huge, concrete blocks, denying access to the roads to all. Peshawar, where the BRT has devastated every road-user, cannot afford the closure of any road for any reason.
Such road closures in the name of security by government departments, residences and officials have become a norm and are causing extreme inconvenience to the public. It is hoped that someone in power will take notice and reduce the suffering of the people.
