Doctor shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT: Two motorcyclists shot dead ophthalmologist Prof Dr Auliya Jan Wazir in Jangalkhel area in Kohat on Wednesday.

Police said that Prof Dr Auliya Jan Wazir was going to his private clinic in a car after performing duty at the Divisional Headquarters (KDA) Hospital.

They said that when the doctor reached Gullobera Chowk, the two motorcyclists, whose identity could not be ascertained, opened indiscriminate fire on him.

He sustained serious bullet injuries and was rushed to the KDA Hospital wherefrom he was referred to a hospital in Peshawar. However, he succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

Taking a prompt action, the police arrested the assailants and recovered the weapon from their possession and the bike used in the crime.

The accused were taken to Cantonment Police Station and a case was registered against them.

District Police Officer Wahid Mahmood announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the police party.

Meanwhile, the Kohat police in an action seized a huge cache of explosives and bomb making gadgets from an empty plot of land located adjacent to a hotel near Rawalpindi Interchange.

Acting on the directives of DPO Wahid Mahmood, Station House Officer Asif Mahmood of the Muhammad Riaz Shaheed Police Station raided a plot and recovered 50kg explosives, 400 non-electric detonators, and six bundles safety fuses.

The personnel of Bomb Disposal Unit defused the explosives before taking it to the police station.

The police said that the miscreants had concealed the explosives for subversive acts in the district but the police aborted the plan.
