In an unusual incident on Sunday evening, a man allegedly shot himself and committed suicide after firing at his brother and sister-in-law over a property dispute, killing the former and severely injuring the latter.

The incident took place in PECHS Block 6 within the limits of the Mehmoodabad police station at a house located near Ambala Bakery from where the bodies of the two brothers were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The woman was also shifted to the hospital with critical injuries. The deceased persons were identified as 45-year-old Hamid, son of Gauhar, and his elder brother Khalid, 50, while the injured woman was identified as 40-year-old Aniqa, wife of Hamid.

Upon receiving the information, the Rangers and police reached the site and investigated the incident. Talking to media persons, Gulshan Division SP Tahir Noorani said the incident occurred at a house owned by Hanif Gauhar, who is a former chairman of the Association of Builders and Developers.

The deceased men were the brothers of Hanif, said the SP. “The initial investigations suggest that the incident took place over a property dispute.”

“Apparently, Khalid opened fire on his brother and sister-in-law and then committed suicide; however, nothing could be said exactly until the investigations are completed,” SP Noorani maintained.

The officer said that the police were waiting for Aniqa to record her statement as her account was crucial for the investigations. The police have also collected empties of a 9mm pistol from the crime scene.

Quoting the initial investigations, District East police chief SSP Ghulam Azfar Mahesar also confirmed that the incident took place over a property dispute as one brother opened fire on his brother and sister-in-law and then apparently committed suicide. He added that further investigations were under way.

No case was registered till the filing of this story.
