Notification of new search committee to appoint VCs lauded

Karachi : The Sindh government’s Universities and Board Department has notified a new search committee mandated to finalise candidates to be appointed as vice-chancellors, chairmen, controller examinations, executive directors and directors for financial affairs at public sectors varsities, education boards and degree-awarding institutes.

The committee comprises Chairman Prof Dr Abdul Qadeer Rajput and five permanent members -- Prof Dr AQ Mughal, Prof Dr Neelofer Shaikh, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaisar, former federal secretary Imtiaz Kazi and the Sindh Higher Education Commission secretary.

The decision was welcomed by the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association’s Sindh chapter, which declared it as a great success for the teaching community of Sindh.

The association on Friday in its statement said this decision was much-awaited especially for the academia across the province.

The FAPUASA Sindh chapter highly appreciated such actions and decisions made by the CM to re-constitute a matchless search committee, including highly experienced academicians.

The teaching community, especially belonging to the Sindh province’s universities, was extremely grateful to the chief minister and felt proud amongst the teaching faculty of all the provinces of Pakistan because of such wonderful, kind and dynamic leadership, the statement read.

Furthermore, it said, the association is hoping that this Vice Chancellor’s Search Committee will play an important role and make good decisions for the promotion of the higher education system in Sindh.

As per the notification, the Sindh government on Thursday constituted a new search committee for the selection of vice chancellors at public sector varsities.

Likewise, the committee has been mandated to appoint executive directors, and directors for financial affairs at the varsities and degree-awarding institutes. It will also search appropriate candidates who could be able to work as chairman, secretary, controller of examination and audit officer in the education board in Sindh.

The committee has also the same mandate to appoint the chairman, secretary and managing director for Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Human Resource Research and Development Board and Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority.
