CM launches work on ‘Parking Skyline’ at Namak Mandi

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the City District Parking Skyline at Namak Mandi.

Sited in the heart of the known food street, the plaza would comprise of seven floors – including basement, semi-basement, ground floor, first floor, commercial units and vehicle parking areas on the remaining portions of the plaza, which would have the capacity of parking 198 vehicles.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the project was unique in nature and an appropriate step for creating the culture of proper parking and resolving the traffic-related problems in Peshawar.

He hoped the skyline would contribute to the economy and beautification of Peshawar.

“It will promote food, restaurant and investment leading to tourism in the area,” he said and assured to resolve all traffic-related problems in Namak Mandi on a priority basis.

The chief minister praised the Peshawar District Government for the project. He termed it a positive step and assured all support in the developmental and beautification plan.

Mahmood Khan said his doors were open to the trader community. He directed the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar to review the overbilling and resolve the people grievances.

The chief minister used the occasion to talk about another mega project, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). He warned of action if there was a delay in the BRT inauguration.

Defending the project, the chief minister said it was launched by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) previous government and he owned the scheme.

He insisted that the BRT soft inauguration would take place on March 23. “The government is monitoring the project being implemented by the Peshawar Development Authority,” he went on to add and said the project had been initiated for the public welfare.

The chief minister said the federal government would transfer Rs 20 billion out of the total Rs 60 billion on account of net hydel profit in the next week while the remaining amount would be transferred in installments of Rs5 billion each every month.

“The transfer of Rs20 billion federal government owed to KP under the net hydel profit will improve the fiscal position of the province,” he added.

The chief minister said he had directed the IGP to bring to justice the killers of Afzal Kohistani soon who had highlighted the alleged honour-killings in the Kohistan district.

Member National Assembly Shaukat Ali, Special Assistant to CM on Information Technology Kamran Bangash, District Nazim Peshawar Muhammad Asim Khan, Naib Nazim Syed Qasim Ali Shah, MPAs Muhammad Asif Khan, Malik Wajidullah Khan, Town Nazimeen, district council members, councillors and government officials were present on the occasion.
