Admin officers supervise cleanliness operation

LAHORE: After the ‘failure’ of Lahore Waste Management Company’s (LWMC) management in cleaning the provincial metropolis, the district administration stepped in to complete the task here on Sunday.

Officials said the district administration remained extraordinarily active to make sure lifting of garbage and solid waste dumped in streets and roads of the provincial capital for the past many days.

The officers of the district administration, including DC Lahore Ms Saleha Saeed in spite of Sunday holiday, were in field on Sunday morning to supervise the entire operation to make the city garbage free and lift the backlog of garbage.

DC Lahore Ms Saleha Saeed, who is also the Chairman of LWMC, came in the field early Sunday and paid a visit to the landfill site at Lakhodair along with Secretary Local Government Punjab Saif Anjum. DC called the LWMC’s management at the landfill site and held meetings with the officers including the MD LWMC. Both officers were completely briefed by the LWMC MD about the current situation of garbage lying in different portions of the city.

It was revealed that Aziz Bhatti Zone and Shalimar Zone areas were affected areas where garbage was still in streets. Keeping in mind the situation of the city, DC Lahore directed to hire extra machinery from local market to lift the backlog of garbage. Both LWMC and local machineries were utilised in cleanliness operation.

It is also worth mentioning here that DC Lahore Ms Saleha Saeed gave a deadline to LWMC staff for lifting backlog of garbage till 12am. She also instructed Assistant Commissioners to be in field and check all areas of their tehsils in regard with cleanliness. She instructed CO Metropolitan Lahore to attach all Zonal Officers with Assistant Commissioner for cleanliness purpose.

Later on, DC Ms Saleha Saeed paid visit to Shadbagh, Garhi Shahu, Haji Camp, Railway Station, Lakshmi Chowk, Din Muhammad Chowk and important roads of the city and supervised the operation of cleanliness and lifting of garbage. She also encouraged lower staff of LWMC on being in the field.
