KARACHI: Administrator KMC Saqib Soomro reopened Karachi’s only public sector diving pool and swimming pool on Monday evening.
The swimming pool had been closed for maintenance and renovation for last one year. The diving pool had remained closed for more than one decade after an accident.
Soomro inaugurated both the projects as a large number of school-going children had been visiting the complex to inquire about the opening of the pool. As the summer vacations have started and the weather is very hot, a large number of citizens were keenly waiting for the opening so that their kids may spend time in a healthy activity.
Speaking on the occasion, Soomro said that the swimming pool had been completely renovated and a new filter plant had been installed. He said that all preventive measures had been taken to run the swimming pool.
He said that the diving pool was the only such facility in the city.
Senior director culture, sports and recreation Raza Abbas Rizvi told ‘The News’ that his department would organise swimming events in near future as due to renovation and development work competitions had not been staged for quite some time.
Raza also said Landhi Sports Complex was going to be inaugurated soon. It had been completed more than two years ago.
