The hospital authorities sought medical history of Nawaz Sharif, who is serving a seven-year jail term in Al-Azizia Steel Mills case, from jail authorities and his family including old medical record pertaining to his heart treatment in the UK. Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, the personal physician of the former premier, also met him at the hospital. Meanwhile, sources at Jinnah Hospital said diabetes and blood pressure of the PML-N supremo were normal. It is learnt the medical board also briefed the family members including Shahbaz and Maryam about medical reports and the ongoing treatment of the former PM.
The sources said the hospital’s medical board was likely to submit its recommendations to the Punjab government through Home Department on Monday (today). Replying to reporters’ queries, Shahbaz Sharif said the former premier was under treatment at the hospital and prayed for his early recovery. Maryam also prayed for her father’s early recovery, adding that he was undergoing various medical tests currently.
Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) workers and supporters have also set up a camp outside the Jinnah Hospital where they prayed for early recovery of their quaid. Jinnah Hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Asim Hameed told reporters that as per the Punjab government directions, the best medical facilities were being provided to former PM. He said his blood pressure, diabetes and ECG were being checked on daily basis, while the former PM was also undergoing medical tests as advised by the medical board. He did not share results of his previous medical tests.
Dr Asim Hameed said recommendations would be sent to the Home Department once finalised. He said only those visitors were allowed to meet the former PM who were authorised after permission from the Home Department, as the hospital had been declared a sub-jail by the government.
The sources said the former premier was advised to continue his previous medication for diabetes and blood pressure.
Agencies add: Nawaz Sharif’s cardiac treatment is yet to be started on the third day at the Jinnah Hospital Lahore as the administration was waiting for the reports of his medical tests that were conducted at other hospitals and gathering additional information. Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Arif Tajjamul said the hospital would receive all reports on Monday and a doctor would then be appointed and treatment would be started.
