While we talk daily about extending the government’s writ across the length and breadth of the country, it is being eroded in the capital. From Barakahu to Tarnol there are umpteen unregulated and unplanned localities. The CDA appears to be tired and is ceding control of its functions to other entities. Sector E-11/4, the sub-sector managed by the Police Foundation, has no parks but numerous wedding halls. The green belt between Sectors G-14 and F-14 is being fast encroached upon and nobody seems to care. In a recent inter-departmental meeting, the management of Sector G-13 was exclusively given to the Federal Housing Foundation. I expressed my reservations about the capacity of the foundation to assume totally new functions. My worst fears have come true. Now the roads in the sector are in a dilapidated condition, there are acute water shortage and no streetlights. Ambassador (r) Javed Hafiz Islamabad
