‘Killer cops’ to remain in jail till identification parade

The Judicial Magistrate East on Friday permitted authorities to hold five policemen, accused of gunning down two motorcyclists, in custody till preparations for identification parade were completed.
Two head constables, Sarfaraz and Nadeem and three constables, Sher Khan, Madad Khan and Faizan, were accused of gunning down 22-year-old Mohammad Ali and Danish, 20, after they allegedly failed to stop at a checkpoint in Bahadurabad.
According to Bashir Khan, father of Ali, friends of his son informed him that policemen had shot at and killed Ali and his friend while they were on their motorbike.
Following the incident, SSP East Pir Mohammad Shah had said that the patrol unit had received information that the men were involved in looting commuters in the area; he, later ordered arrest of the policemen.
The accused claimed that the victims, along with four other persons on three bikes, had refused to stop at a police checkpoint near the Tipu Sultan signal after which they opened fire.

‘Indian spies’
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended the physical remand of four suspects alleged to be Indian spies till June 7.
The under-detention accused – Rehan alias Lamba, Tahir, Junaid and Imtiaz – were produced in court where police officials claimed they have confessed to be being involved in several terror activities. It was further claimed that the men had admitted to their association with a local political party and also India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Jailed for two years
A court awarded two years’ imprisonment to a man, Hanif Ahmed, in an illegal weapons case.
Ahmed was arrested in 2014 for possession of an unlicensed pistol. Judge (Central) Faiz Muhammad Bhatti also imposed a fine of Rs20,000.
