The World Government Summit 2019 came as an opportunity for Pakistan to emphasise its commitment to global convergence. Prime Minister Imran Khan made the most of this opportunity by articulating his vision on governance and economics. The crux of the PM’s speech was that since Pakistan is transforming, it is the ideal time for foreign investors to invest in the country. However, we must recognise the fact that our policies shouldn’t just favour multinational corporations but must also account for the interests of domestic investors. Our government must also consider global trends while reforming policies. Globalisation was a phenomenon of the 1990s and the early 2000s. But things have changed over the years as regional cooperation is preferred over global convergence. Higher profits are yielded through providing services. At this stage, our government needs to be more flexible in the service sector as well.
