Steps ordered to cope with flood

PUNJAB Minister for Home and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Flood Control Col. (R) Shuja Khanzada has directed Punjab Disaster Management Authority to take measures for coping with potential flood and arrange flood relief equipment in all districts of the province.
Presiding over a special meeting to review the measures to deal with potential flood at Punjab Civil Secretariat here Monday, Khanzada directed that repair and strengthening of spurs of all rivers and water channels as well as protective embankments should be ensured and all departments should review the action plan for coping with flood situation so that arrangements could be finalised.
He directed PDMA and Health Department authorities to submit a report in the next meeting after checking of boats and testing of dewatering pumps.
He directed that medicines for the treatment of diseases caused by flood, anti-venom vaccine and other relief items be kept in stand by position.
