LAHORE: LUMS is concerned by the broadcast of certain claims made recently on a primetime TV show. According to a LUMS statement, Dr. Taimur Rahman who has been a valued member of the faculty since 2002 was not in any way involved with organising the talk titled “Un-Silencing Balochistan,” that was scheduled to be held on the 9th of April at LUMS. It is regretted that standards of journalistic integrity and ethics have not been upheld in this case.

457 suspects held in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have rounded up 457 suspects and seized arms and ammunition in the ongoing search and strike operation being conducted throughout the province under the National Action Plan. The police recovered 27 arms and 339 ammunition. During the operation, 645 houses and 287 hotels were checked and 13 cases were registered against the violators. During snap checking on 169 points, 373 suspects were held and 21 arms of different kinds recovered and 416 cartridges of different bores seized. In the action against illegal Afghans, a total of 37 persons were detained on violation and 24 cases were registered against them. Similarly two persons were arrested for misusing load speaker and one load speaker was seized. Two cases were registered against the violators.

Three die in accidents

SUKKUR: Three people died while two got wounded in separate road accident in Shikarpur on Thursday.According to details, a man and a woman were killed and two were injured, while a boy was sent to hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, in a bus-motorbike collision in Sultankot at Jagan Link Road, the motorcyclist Kamal Jafri was died on the spot and his relative Yaseen Jafri sustained serious injuries.

‘Karachi incident reaction to Chinese investment plan’

CHAKWAL: Minster for Human Rights and Minorities Tahir Sandhu on Thursday said the Karachi incident was the reaction to $42 billion Chinese investment plan in Pakistan. Addressing an interfaith religious harmony peace conference at Chakwal Press Club, the minister said anti Pakistan forces wanted to destabilize the country and do not want to end loadshedding.
