World Vision International, Pakistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the District Education Department (DED) for provision of education and psychosocial support to 500 out-of-school children through 20 selected Non-Formal Basic Education (NFBE) Centres in marginalised communities of selected Union Councils (UCs) in Rawalpindi district. These NFBE Centres have been established and being run by the Provincial Government Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education (LNFBE) department.
At a signing ceremony held at Government Millat Boys High School, Qazi Zahoorul Haq, executive district officer education representing DED on behalf of the District Coordination Officer, and Fred Witteveen, national director of World Vision Pakistan, inked the MoU.
World Vision will support the NFBE Centres in capacity-building of teachers through trainings, and integration of Information Communications Technology (ICT) with the prescribed syllabus and course books for these centres. It will also provide psychosocial support to the children.
The ICT-based learning will be piloted in 10 NFBE Centres, providing an opportunity to compare the results of ICT-based learning with rest of the 10 non-ICT Centres, where such technology has not been provided.
Based on the findings of this intervention, further planning will be initiated, depending on the effectiveness of ICT in learning outcomes of children.
In order to enhance the effectiveness of the NFBE Centres for quality education, a joint monitoring support mechanism will be adopted by World Vision and LNFBE department.
