Invite public to adopt schools, says Wattoo

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo Monday said the directive of the Punjab Chief Minister regarding adopting schools was discriminatory and short-sighted.
In a statement, Wattoo said it was a regrettable situation that there was no response from bureaucrats regarding the CM directive despite the lapse of one month.
He said senior officers almost ignored the directive and secondly it failed to achieve desired results because it lacked vision.
The PPP leader urged the government to extend the invitation to general public because there were so many people who would come forward to contribute to promote the cause of education.
Wattoo said Amir Begum Welfare Trust had adopted eight government schools and condition of these institutions had improved considerably.
He said the Japanese government donated Rs 15 million for the High School in village Bongi Ram Singh, Okara, for girls’ education.
Wattoo said pathetic condition of government educational institutions clearly manifested the appalling state of affairs.
He said the PML-N government had developed a liking for discriminatory education and Daanish schools presented the flawed approach in this regard. The same money should have been well spent in improving the overall conditions of the existing government schools.
Citing the education report of 2013-14, the PPP leader said 35 per cent schools did not have facilities for clean drinking water, 31 per cent were devoid of toilets and 41 per cent had no electricity. He said these figures held the mirror for the Punjab government. He urged the CM to take into consideration the miserable situation of education in the province before boasting about his good governance.
