Family protest against police

LAHORE
A large number of people belonging to Okara protested against police for implicating innocent people in a fake murder case in front of the Lahore Press Club on Monday. They were carrying placards and banners with the inscription of appeal to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for justice.
They said the accused persons Jamil and others attempted to occupy their house. Many of their family members received bullet injuries in the incident. Two persons Amina and Faisal died due to the invaders’ firing. A murder case was registered against the affected family members instead of the attackers, they maintained. They said the accused persons were influential and a local MPA was supporting them, they alleged. That is why they are roaming free and police are not arresting them. They appealed to the chief minister and IG Punjab Police for justice. SDPO Sadar Circle Okara, Mian Farooq Kamyana said three accused persons were sent on judicial remand.
FOUND DEAD: A 35-year-old man was found dead in a drain in the Hanjarwal police limits Monday. The deceased person was identified as Shabbir alias Shera. A passerby spotted the body lying in drain near Darbar Peer Muhammad Ali Shah and informed the police. They reached the spot and fished out the body. Police collected forensic evidences from the crime scene and registered the statements of the eye-witnesses. ASI Hadayat Ali said police had informed the family of the deceased person. The family said the deceased person was an addict and refused to initiate any legal action. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man died in the Naseerabad police limits Monday. Ehsan, a resident of Green Colony, Chungi Amar Sadhu, worked as a shoe-maker. He was going to his work. As he reached near Ferozpur Road, his condition went critical and he fell down. A passerby informed Rescue 1122. They shifted the victim to a nearby hospital where he died. Police said he was sick and might have died of a cardiac arrest. Police removed the bodies to morgue.
EDHI AMBULANCE: Edhi Ambulance Service shifted 1,325 bodies and 3,915 patients to their homes during the month of April. According to a handout, Edhi Ambulance Service shifted bodies of 48 persons, died in road accidents, and, 77 injured, to their homes in the different parts of the metropolis. Edhi Foundation arranged burial of 27 unclaimed bodies, provided wheel-chairs and walker stand for deserving people too. Edhi spokesperson appealed to public to call at 115 in case of any emergency.
Crackdown: City Traffic Police Lahore launched an awareness campaign to highlight the utility of seatbelts near Liberty Roundabout on Monday.
DIG Operations, Dr Haider Ashraf, DCO Lahore, Capt (r) Usman and a large number of school children, scouts and people from different fields of life visited the camp. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Traffic Police Officer (CTO), Tayyab Hafiz Cheema said they were launching a crackdown on violators of seatbelt from May 11. He said they all should make effort to create awareness for the use of seatbelt. Guests and participants distributed flowers and pamphlets carrying content on use of seatbelt and traffic laws. CTO said use of seatbelt while driving could reduce number of accidents.
