The Pat Feeder canal that used to discharge 60,500 cusecs of water is left with a discharge capacity of just 3,000 cusecs. This quantity is insufficient to cater to the needs of the people of Nasirabad district. People are unable to irrigate their land. Last year 50 percent of the Kharif crop was affected due to water shortage. Also, six people lost their lives because of water-related disputes last year. Although the government had released Rs600 million after the 2012 floods for rehabilitation of the canal, no development work has been carried out so far and it seems the fund has been eaten up by corrupt irrigation officials. The federal government is requested to intervene. Agha Zain Lehri
