PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has directed all the Regional Police Officers and District Police Officers to remove all those having political affiliation or contesting local government polls from dispute resolution councils (DRCs).
The provincial police chief also directed RPOs and DPOs to select people of good repute, with no political linkages to be included in the DRCs. These members would be selected from the community, especially lawyers, academicians, retired government and army officers and social workers.
Apart from others, judges and lawyers have joined these councils and are contributing valuable input to their working. Presently, six retired judges of the high court are members of DRCs. They are contributing to the process of amicable resolution of various issues.
Besides, 30 lawyers, including members of the bar associations, 65 retired civil/army officers including a retired major general, brigadiers, colonels, secretaries, special secretaries, deputy secretaries, and additional inspector general of police, 39 educationists (retired principals, head masters and teachers), 21 businessmen, 13 doctors, 64 social workers, 72 elders of their respective areas and many more from the civil society are contributing to the working of DRCs.
