A 19-year-old girl was strangled by her father, brothers and stepmother for love marriage in the Lower Mall police limits on Thursday.
Police removed the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case against accused Allah Ditta, father, Sarfaraz, Imtiaz, brothers, and Mussarat Bibi, stepmother.
Nida had married by her choice a few months ago. Her family members were opposed to her love marriage. They called her to their home and strangled her. Police arrested Allah Ditta, Sarfaraz and Musrat Bibi while Imtiaz managed to flee.
BURNT: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were gutted in two fire incidents. A fire broke out in a house near Bhalla Chowk in Green Town police limits due to a short circuit. It engulfed a room of the house and burnt valuables. Rescue teams reached the spot and doused the fire. In another incident, a fire broke out in a restaurant in Barkat Market due to a short circuit and burnt valuables. Rescue teams controlled the fire.
accidents: At least 589 road accidents were reported in Rescue 1122 Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which 10 lives were lost and 490 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. Some 269 minor injured were provided first aid by Rescue 1122 on the spot.
TRAFFIC: Chief Traffic Police Officer (CTO) Tayyab Hafiz Cheema visited Thokar Niaz Beg. He gave orders to the wardens to end encroachments to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow. He ordered Sadr DSP to contact traders to end wrong parking and encroachments in front of shopping malls. The CTO said the traffic police continued action to remove encroachments.
