ISLAMABAD: Former spokesman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and founding member Omar Sarfraz Cheema Saturday filed a petition with the party Election Tribunal of Justice (R) Wajihuddin Ahmad complaining against victimisation for speaking the truth about alleged irreqularities in the PTI intra-party polls.
In his petition, he levelled serious allegations against the top PTI leadership for interfering in the intra-party elections and not providing a level playing field to all the contesting candidates.A kind of revolt-like situation is also developing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the award of tickets for the upcoming local bodies (LB) polls. Some disgruntled party activists are most likely to hold a news conference in Peshawar Monday.
Cheema also accused the top PTI leadership that he was removed from the post of the spokesman to the PTI chairman after demanding free and fair intra-party elections without any show cause notice or inquiry in clear violation of the PTI Constitution.
PTI insiders insisted that Imran believed there was no role left for the tribunal to play after its order calling for holding fresh party polls. However, the tribunal head Wajihuddin believed till the implementation of its order, the forum could not be dissolved. He also objected to the way, the tribunal was ordered to pack up.
The PTI chairman publicly committed that he would appear before the tribunal on April 19, 2015. The new date was agreed upon by the tribunal after Imran had requested so. However, despite being in Karachi, the PTI chairman cancelled his plans to appear before the PTI tribunal requesting more time.
