A police constable was gunned down in New Karachi on Friday evening.
The Bilal Colony police said Mohammed Naeem, 34, was shot dead near 2-Minute Chowrangi.
Gulberg SP Faisal Noor said Naeem was posted at the Nazimabad police station and lived in New Karachi.
He was heading to work on his motorcycle when a man in a Toyota Corolla car fired gunshots at him.
He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He had suffered a single bullet wound to his chest. The official said the attacker had used 30-bore pistol.
With the constable’s killing, the number of policemen who have fallen in the line of duty in the city this year has reached 42. The Preedy SHO was shot dead just a day earlier.
Two gangsters killed
Two suspected Lyari-based gangsters were killed by police in a late night encounter. Mauripur sub-divisional police officer Shaukat Shahani said police conducted a raid in Raees Goth and in the ensuing encounter injured two gangsters.
They later expired at the Civil hospital. They were identified as Majid Baloch and Zeeshan Baloch, both wanted for target killings, extortion and robberies. They were found in possession of two TT pistols and a grenade.
Arrests
The special investigation unit arrested four robbers in a raid conducted in Korangi No 2 after an encounter. They were identified as Rasool Bux, Sohail Ahmed, Aurangzeb and Ismail. Their four TT pistols were seized.
