NAB to set up anti-corruption academy

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to train its incoming Investigation Officers (OIs) at Police Training College Sihala on modern lines and intends to establish its own Anti-Corruption Training Academy on the pattern of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy.
The decision has taken during the meeting of the NAB which was chaired by its Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry here Thursday to review Plan of Action of Training and Research Division for the investigators basic induction course including continued refresher training and capacity building courses of NAB’s investigation officers and prosecutors already working in NAB during the year 2015.
Director General Training & Research Division gave a presentation on the various training programmes planned for 2015 for catering the training needs and capacity building of all National Accountability Bureau investigation officers and prosecutors during 2015.
While chairing the meeting Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that training was an important aspect in the capacity building of all ranks of NAB as training is the cutting edge of effective job performance.
He said that training was an instrument through which human capabilities were developed for enhancing practical and productive efforts.
The chairman said that NAB had been assigned a major responsibility of eradicating corruption and corrupt practices from the country and bring the guilty to book.
The Chairman NAB said that NAB was a vibrant and a dynamic organisation which recognises the centrality of training as a tool of improvement and maintaining the quality of its manpower.
He said that a standardised syllabus for all investigation officers, refresher and capacity building courses need to be formulated to ensure quality and uniformity as it will help NAB in achieving standard application of SOPs, laws and rules.
“The performance objectives of training programmes will be continuously evaluated to as a basis for subsequent review and improvements in future training needs,” he added.
He directed DG (T&R) to have close liaison with Police Training College Sihala for Investigator’s Basic Induction Course-VII (2015) for the incoming investigation officers on modern lines. The chairman NAB directed Training and Research Division NAB to speed up work on the proper functioning of NAB forensic LAB so that all cases are investigated with state of the art facility.
He further asked DG (T&R) to put up report on the current status of establishment of NAB Anti-Corruption Training Academy on the pattern of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) so that NAB may establish its own Anti-Corruption Training Academy in order to cater for capacity building training needs of its investigation officers and prosecutors on modern lines.
The DG T&R Division of the NAB informed the meeting that process of recruitment of 132 investigation officers from BS-16 to BS-18 has been initiated by NAB which is likely to be completed very soon.
The T&R Division NAB Headquarter is accordingly planning to arrange the Investigator’s Basic Induction Course-VII (2015) for the incoming Investigation Officers.
The previous course contents were circulated to all Regional NABs and Divisions/Wings of NAB Headquarter for suggestions. As a result of this exercise on the basis of input obtained, the course contents have been accordingly readjusted.
He further informed that the adjustments had been incorporated within the seven training modules namely on law enforcement, government working, law, investigation, white collar crimes, prevention regime and study visits.
The training is accordingly planned for Investigator’s Basic Induction Course-VII (2015) for the incoming investigation officers at Police Training College Sihala where ample facilities like faculty and staff, class rooms/lecture halls, conference room, computer lab, library, cafeteria and hostel accommodation for the participants are available for such training.
