Rs34 billion development projects approved for Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority Development Working Party (CDA-DWP) on Wednesday approved the PC-1 of signal-free and controlled access corridor of Islamabad Highway from Zero Point Interchange to GT Road, development of two new sectors and Kurri Model Village worth Rs34 billion.
The CDA-DWP also gave its nod for other projects, including development of sectors C-14 and C-15 and Kurri Village. The PC-1 of these mega projects was approved during the 36th meeting of CDA-DWP held at the CDA Headquarters. The meeting was presided over by CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal.
On the occasion, the CDA Board members, senior officers of Planning and Development Division, Cabinet Division and senior officers of the authority, including director general works, director planning and evaluation, were also present.
The signal-free controlled access corridor of Islamabad Highway from Zero Point Interchange to GT Road would cost Rs21.8 billion. Under the project, five lanes each would be constructed on both sides of Islamabad Highway from Zero Point to Rawat. The project also includes two major interchanges and underpasses. T-Junction would also be constructed on 24-kilometre long Islamabad Highway. The participants of the meeting felt that due to expansion of Islamabad Highway not only commuters from other parts of the country would be facilitated but people residing along Islamabad Highway would also reap its benefit.
The meeting participants okayed the PC-1 amounting to Rs3.495 billion for the development of Sector C-14 and the PC-1 worth Rs4.548 billion for the development of Sector C-15 were also approved to cater to the growing housing needs in the federal capital. The development of these sectors would not only help meet housing needs but will also open new avenues of development in the metropolis.
The CDA-DWP also okayed the PC-1 for the long-awaited project of Kurri Model Village, which would cost Rs4.074 billion. The development of the village would not only help in acquisition of thousands of acres of land but also help resolve the longstanding issue.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said that the development of signal-free and controlled access corridor of Islamabad Highway would help ease traffic burden in Islamabad. He said that new sectors would cope with the growing housing needs as well as help bring down the prices of real estate in the capital. He said that the approved mega projects should be started at the earliest after completion of all formalities.
