The PHF in crisis

This refers to the news report, ‘PHF shuts camp for financial constraints’ (April 3). To everyone’s utter surprise, once an unassailable team, Pakistan hockey is now entangled in a financial crisis. The premature closing of the camp owing to the shortage of funds has exposed the government’s tall claims about good governance. These financial constraints have brought the national game to its knees.
This is not the first time that news about budget problems being faced by the PHF has been aired. The media has highlighted the issue time and again. Surprisingly, their efforts could not wake our rulers from their deep slumber. Without investing in the sports sector, the dream of taking the country ahead will remain elusive. The department that gets extra funds in other countries and is used to promote their softer image is unfortunately least funded in Pakistan.
