Police arrested 4,256 suspects after registering 3,525 cases against them under various sections by implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) during the last three months.
Lahore CCPO Amin Wains and DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf are personally supervising the implementation of 20-points agenda of National Action Plan (NAP) including crackdowns, search operations, security of jails and proper legal action against the arrested suspects in cooperation with the personnel of other law-enforcement agencies.
The data available with The News shows that the police registered 648 cases against the 857 arrested suspects under the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Ordination 2015. The challans of at least 542 cases have also been submitted in courts.
Under the Punjab Information of Temporary Resident Ordinance 2015, police arrested 1,873 violators and registered 1,362 cases against them. Out of the total violators, 977 were landlords, 691 tenants, 22 property dealers and 183 managers.
Special teams of police arrested 21 accused persons by registering 27 cases under the Punjab Prohibition of Expressing Matters on Walls (Amendment) Ordinance 2015.
Police also launched crackdown on the owners of vulnerable establishments under the Punjab Security of Vulnerable Establishments Ordinance 2015 and arrested 90 persons. The personnel of law enforcement agencies also launched a crackdown on the possessors of illegal weapons under the Punjab Arms Amendments Ordinance 2015 and arrested 1,238 accused persons by registering 1,239 FIRs against them. However, the cases of 807 persons were still pending in the courts.
Soon after the issuance of National Action Plan, Police focused on combing search operations to nab suspected terrorists and their facilitators. Police in coordination with sensitive agencies conducted 1,575 search operations in 1881 localities during the last three months. They questioned 169,429 suspected persons and registered 133 cases against those who could not prove their identity. Police also registered 54 cases under Foreign Act, 20 under 13/20/65 and 5 under the CNSA.
The special teams of forces have also been verifying the identities of residents of 28 Afghan localities.
During the three months of current year, police conducted several general hold ups during which 33 illegal arms were recovered and 5,437 vehicles were impounded. Police took action against 92 persons over the illegal display of arms and registered 83 cases.
City Traffic Police took action against 61,920 vehicles with tinted glasses, 29,616 with unauthorised number plates, 115 with unauthorised green number plates, 17386 vehicles without number plates and impounded 471 vehicles without proper documents.
Police arrested 8 persons under 4th Shedule and detained 10 such persons. They also arrested 6 persons involved in facilitating criminals/terrorists and detained 50 others.
Police also conducting search operations 87 times in the surroundings of central and district jails, apprehended 17 persons while questioning 21185 persons.
To avert terrorist activity in the uniforms of law enforcers, Police took action got sealed 17 shops and arrested 8 persons. During the ongoing crackdown on terrorists, police also arrested 2 members of TTP and 8 of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
During the crackdown against Afghans, law enforcement agencies arrested 99 illegal Afghans and registered 54 cases against them. Police have also been verifying the status of students studying at Jamia-tul-Arabia (Raiwind).
CCPO Amin Wains said that the action under the NAP would create massive impact and deterrence against criminals and terrorists. He added police have been utilising all out resources to bring peace in the City.
The legal experts said timely prosecution of cases registered under NAP would help getting desired results. They also said that the support of community is essential as they can play basic role to point out miscreants in the society. The time has come to cooperate with the law enforcers to eliminate criminals and terrorists which was impossible without the support of locals.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera also took briefing over the progress regarding the implementation of Nation Action Plan in the Province on Monday. IGP was told that during the last 12 weeks 3396 cases have been registered, 3336 accused were arrested whereas 3124 Challans were submitted and 768 were convicted on violation of Sound System (Regulation) Ordinance, 2015 in Punjab. The PPO was briefed that on violation of MPO, 1960 as Amended in 2015, Police have registered 23 cases and also 23 accused arrested whereas submitted 10 Challans and among them 2 accused were convicted.
