BCom student killed in crossfire between police and robbers

A man was shot dead in a shootout between police and outlaws near Bux Ali Goth in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Mobina Town Police Station’s Sub Inspector (SI) Mohammad Ayub said that information was received on Saturday that robbers were looting citizens at Sabri Park, but when the police reached the crime scene they had already fled.

However, the robbers were caught red-handed during another attempt on Asma Building Road. An exchange of gunshots took place between the parties, as a result of which a young man in a car was injured. One of the robbers also got injured in the crossfire but managed to escape on a stolen motorbike.

The injured civilian was identified as Mosib Hassan Khan, who was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The deceased was shot in the back of his head. Ayub mentioned that Khan’s mother was in the car with him when the incident occurred. The deceased was a student of BCom and a resident of Metroville-III, Mobina Town.

With regard to the escaped robber, he said that word was received from Civil Hospital Karachi that a person had come in, claiming to have been injured in a mugging incident. A picture of the injured person was shown to the people he allegedly mugged and they confirmed that he was the main accused upon which the police reached the hospital and arrested him.

The sub inspector added that the accused was a habitual criminal as there were many FIRs registered against him at various police stations across the city. Deputy Inspector General Zulfiqar Lariq formed a team under the supervision of District Malir’s senior superintendent of police to establish the facts of the incident as well as to determine who was responsible for killing Khan. An FIR was lodged and further investigations are under way.
