LALAMUSA: City police on Tuesday arrested two Afghans for residing illegally.
On a tip-off, the police raided and arrested Zahid Khan, s/o Muhammad Ashraf, and Sodagar Khan, s/o Sher Khan, from Chandni Chowk and Main Bazaar respectively. Both persons had no legal documents and were living illegally in Pakistan. The police have registered separate cases.
2 SITES IDENTIFIED FOR UOG CAMPUS: Two sites have been identified for construction of the University of Gujrat campus in Lalamusa.
It was said by Gujrat DCO Liaqat Ali Chattha while addressing a meeting here on Tuesday. The DCO said that the sites had been suggested but the final decision would be taken after the approval of Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif. The suggested places were Local Government Academy and Elementary School for Boys, he informed. He said that 160 kanals land could be used out of total 339 kanals land of Local Government Academy while Government Elementary School for Boys had 113 kanals land. PML-N MNA Ch Jafar Iqbal said that the people of NA-106 would get better education facilities after construction of the campus in Lalamusa. UoG Vice-Chancellor Dr Ziaul Qayyum, DOC Waqar Hussain Khan, Kharian AC Syeda Rubab Jafri, Gujrat EDO Education Tahir Kashif and others were also present.
POWER SHUTDOWN: People have shown concern over 12-hour unscheduled electricity loadshedding in the city and its adjoining areas.
The power supply remained suspended for several hours without any prior notice from the Wapda authorities. The power shutdown paralysed all activities in the city. The business community also faced problems due to power shutdown. The people demanded the government take steps to overcome energy crisis.
