Many builders in Lyari have launched construction projects for multi-storeyed buildings. However, most of these projects are discontinued for no apparent reason. This has adversely impacted a large number of people who have lost their hard-earned money in these unauthorised illegal projects. More often than not, construction work on these projects is either abandoned. The projects are also laced with so many irregularities. The builders charge hefty amounts from people for small-sized flats that do not have proper openings for fresh air or sunlight. These builders also charge for the installation of electric, gas and water meters from flat owners in advance. Such flats are not even suitable for residential purposes.
Stricter laws should be introduced so that such dubious elements aren’t able to get away with their crime. The government should take steps to ensure that people’s hard-earned money is not looted. It is time the authorities concerned took relevant steps to ensure that such builders are brought to book. In this regard, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) can play a vital role to apprehend such elements. Those who have lost their money in such scam projects should be compensated.
