PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) provincial general secretary and parliamentary leader in Khyber Pakhtun-khwa Assembly Sardar Hussain Babak has expressed concern over the postponement of the provincial assembly session for the fourth time.

In a statement, the ANP leader termed the government action as unconstitutional, unlawful, violation of Pakhtun traditions and an insult to the lawmakers and assembly.

Sardar Babak said the requisition of the opposition for discussion of the 22-point agenda had not been entertained.

He said the government could not face members in the assembly, adding that the government was unable to requisition the farewell session of the assembly.

The ANP leader declared the current assembly as one of the most unfortunate in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa history. “It is a parliamentary tradition that a farewell session is held at the end of the fifth year to provide all members to share their experience with other lawmakers,” he added.

However, he said, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had disregarded the traditions and the lawmakers would leave the assembly without fulfilling the established tradition.
