Meeting reviews arrangements for upcoming elections in Pindi district

Rawalpindi : The District and Sessions Judge, Rawalpindi Muhammad Khalid Nawaz who is also District Returning Officer (DRO) in a high level meeting has directed to returning officers (ROs), assistant returning officers (AROs), commissioner, deputy commissioner, regional police officer (RPO) and other concerned officials to present final report regarding to polling station scheme till May 28, 2018.

The concerned officers will point out areas to establish polling stations for upcoming general elections. The concerned officers will present their final report related to point out areas to set up polling stations till May 28 while public could submit their objections within 30 days. After 30 days of submission of objections, District Returning Officer (DRO) will issue final notification of concerned polling stations.

In the meeting, Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Chief Officer, RDA officials, WASA officials were present on the occasion.

It is worth mentioning here that preparation for the upcoming elections training of Returning Officers (ROs), Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) and District Election Commissioners (DECs) of Rawalpindi has been completed, which was conducted from May 17 to 19.

In the meeting, the District Returning Officer (DRO) discussed on important points related to provision of transport facility to election staff including DROs, ROs, AROs and others, provision of foolproof security and installations of CCTV cameras at sensitive polling stations. Up-gradation of all polling stations well before the elections and provision of staff for elections where ever required.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had earlier issued notification and appointing 13 ROs and 26 AROs for 13 constituencies of National Assembly and 27 ROs and 54 AROs for 27 constituencies of the provincial assembly in Rawalpindi division.

The ROs and AROs have been appointed for NA-55 to NA-67 including two constituencies of Attock, seven of Rawalpindi, two of Chakwal and two constituencies of Jhelum.

Similarly, five provincial assembly constituencies from PP-1 to PP-5 in Attock district, 15 constituencies of PP-6 to PP-20 in Rawalpindi district, four constituencies PP-21 to PP-24 in Chakwal district and three Jhelum constituencies from PP-25 to PP-27 are included.

Training of the ROs, AROs and DECs of Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock have also been completed on Wednesday.

According to data available by District Election Commission (DEC) office, there are over 2.95 million voters registered in Rawalpindi district including 1.57 million males and 1.37 female while nearly 47,000 new voters have been registered in Rawalpindi district under the campaign ended recently. ECP had appointed 32 revising authorities for Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum to receive objections.

Under the voter verification campaign, the citizens were given over one month period to check voter lists displayed at 280 important points and get their names corrected.

The final voter lists are being prepared which would be displayed by May end at the office of District Election Commissioner.
