The Islamabad High Court has ordered that during Ramazan no one except for PhD scholars will discuss religious/Islamic issues in the media. This is a landmark decision. A serious problem in our country is that as a society, we are talking about religion without practising it, irrespective of our qualifications or knowledge. It is time we stopped airing shows in which people talk about serious matters without having sound knowledge about them.
Barring permission for rituals and prayers, the honourable courts should consider the imposition of a ban on all religious discussions at every public forum, including social media and TV channels. This will reduce social dissentions, discords and infighting, and counter extremism and terrorism.
