SHO, five cops booked for torturing labourer
FAISALABAD: Mansoorabad police Thursday booked the Civil Lines SHO, an ASI of CIA and four other police officials on the charge of torturing a mill labourer and extorting Rs250,000 from him.
Police allegedly tortured Irfan Ahmed in a torture cell in police custody and threatened to get him entangled in different cases if he did not pay the amount. He was allegedly tortured in Samanabad, Gatwala and Sargodha Road police stations. Police pressurised him to accept his involvement in a firing case of Tahir Jameel. Later, Irfan was freed when he paid the bribe. Irfan alleged the ASI also took away cash, expensive mobile phones and his motorcycle (4187) from him. The victim said when he approached a local sessions court, the SHO got a stay order, which was later quashed by the high court. The high court ordered registering a case against the SHO and five other police officials.
LIFE IMPRISONMENT: An additional sessions judge Thursday awarded life imprisonment to two accused in a abduction-cum-murder case. Waqar Ahmed and Haider Ali of Naimat Town were awarded life imprisonment and payment of Rs0.3 million as compensation to the bereaved family of victim Zeeshan Ahmed. Both the convicts were also awarded seven years imprisonment each.
