ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal on Thursday said the bureau has nothing to do with elections.

“The NAB has nothing to do with elections be it pre or post elections and it upholds a policy of accountability across the board,” he said while addressing a ceremony organised by NAB Rawalpindi in which the cheques were distributed among the affectees of private housing societies.

The NAB Rawalpindi has recovered so far Rs110 million from the different private housing societies and returned it to 809 affectees.

Chairman NAB Javed Iqbal said the complaints are being verified on receiving the complaints against the accused regarding alleged allegations of corruption, which are not yet to prove. “The NAB will provide ample opportunity to all concerned for presenting their point of view and after that if needed, legal proceedings will only be taken against the accused persons as per law,” he said.

The chairman NAB said the NAB neither believes in revenge nor in the political victimisation policy. “The NAB did not care any position, institution, province and personality while discharging its duty of accountability across the board and justice to all.

He said the NAB’s first priority is to recover money from those involved in bank frauds and housing society scams. The NAB chairman further said, “The accountability bureau Rawalpindi wing has recovered around Rs110 million from different organisations and they are returning it back to the victims of scams.” He said the NAB recovered Rs296 billion from corrupt individuals and returned it to those affected by the individuals’ practices.

Javed Iqbal shared that in the last seven months, 226 suspects and 25 proclaimed offenders were arrested and produced before court and references were filed against 217 corrupt individuals.
