Snap-checking by the paramilitary Rangers led to massive traffic jams in the old city areas on Monday.
According to a statement by Traffic Police Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Imran Yaqoob Minhas, traffic from Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road had been diverted towards Karachi Press Club Chowk due to snap-checking, while one of the roads leading to Shaheen Complex from PIDC was also closed due to the same reason.
However, traffic from Shaheen Complex to PIDC was plying normally on one track and traffic from Jinnah Bridge had been diverted towards Boat Basin. Due to the disruption in the routes at peak hours, traffic flow was also severely affected at I.I. Chundrigar Road, Awan-e-Saddar Road, M.R. Kiyani Road, Khajoor Chowk, Fawara Chowk and many areas of Saddar.
Around 8pm, Minhas, the Traffic DIGP issued another statement that the snap-checking had been completed and the routes which were previously cordoned off had been reopened for traffic, so the flow was getting normal.
