Where’s the water?
Among the many crises that are being faced by residents of rural areas, the persistent water shortage needs the immediate attention of the authorities. Rural areas across the country are facing a water scarcity. The supply of contaminated water has added to the woes of locals. Residents have to walk long distances to bring two or three cans of water to their homes. Many people are forced to drink contaminated water. The number of people, including children, who are affected by a diverse menu of water-borne diseases remain quite high.
It is tragic that the relevant authorities are not doing anything about the matter. Some believe that this situation has been artificially created to allow the tanker mafia to make profit. Whatever the reasons for this may be, only marginalised sections of our society have to bear the brunt of this crisis. The authorities should work to provide uninterrupted supply of water to residents.
