Millions of children have been out of school for a long time. Statistics that have repeatedly suggested this fact should have been an eye opener for the government and it should have taken steps to revive our ailing education sector. However, no steps were taken to address the quagmires within the education systems. State-owned education institutions in rural areas are in a terrible condition.
Spaces that were created to provide learning and teaching are now being used by cattle owners to tether their animals. Who will take responsibility for all this and who will ensure the welfare of people? It is time the authorities concerned realised the importance of education in shaping the future of a country.
