The first paper of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) annual examinations 2018, which kicked off in the city on Tuesday, was leaked 30 minutes before the start of the exam.
Earlier, many news channels reported that the question paper of zoology was easily available to students at photocopy shops and was also circulated on social media, including WhatsApp groups.
However, Prof Inam Ahmed, chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), which is conducting the annual exams, said that some reporters wanted to disrupt the peaceful HSSC assessment process.
He said the board had already given the responsibility to the vigilances teams to stop cheating in the exams, and most of the vigilance officers belonged to the College Education Department. If anybody had reservations, they should ask the department, not the board, he added. On the other hand, Pervaiz Ahmed Sehar, secretary for colleges, said the prevention of cheating was the basic responsibility of relevant educational boards. He said his department had resolved all the administrative issues and handed the remaining task over to the relevant boards. If vigilance staff were not supportive during the exams, then the board officials should submit their complaints, he said.
