Pak team named for South Asian junior athletics
ISLAMABAD: After failing to impress and even get closer to winning medal in the Commonwealth Games, Pakistan athletics team is now preparing for the South Asian Junior meet.
Pakistan javelin thrower Nadeem Arshad managed eighth position in 12-men competition of the Games with his best throw of 76.02m. He threw the javelin seven times and failed to match the best of athletes in the meet. India Neeraj Chopra won gold in the Commonwealth Games with consistent throwing. His best throw was 86.47m for golden efforts.
The rest of Pakistan athletes competed in the Games showed even worst performance.Athletics Federation of Pakistan now announced 12-member national team to participate in the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship starting from May 5 at Colombo, Sri Lanka. Eight men and four women athletes will compete in the event.
Men’s team includes Muhammad Wasim, Muhammad Hamza, Hassan Raza, Muhammad Shahzad, Younis Waqar, Moeed Baloch, Abdul Razaq and Ghulam Mohiuddin while Tahreem, Esha, Saiqa and Noorul Ameen will represent women’s team.Eight countries will participate in the event including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanis-tan, Bhutan and Nepal.
