KARACHI: The proceedings of the Sindh Assembly were marred for a second consecutive day on Friday as opposition lawmakers belonging to different political parties resorted to a vociferous protest over different issues, especially the water crisis in Orangi Town.

MPA Saifuddin Khalid, who has quit the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and joined the Pak Sarzameen Party, resorted to a novel way of protest inside the House.

Khalid staged a sit-in on the floor of the assembly hall against a water crisis being braved by the residents of his constituency in Orangi Town. His protest continued even after the current session was adjourned until Monday. The legislator’s sit-in carried on until the filing of this report.

The opposition lawmaker demanded that the provincial government launch a service comprising 100 water tankers for the localities that are deprived of the most essential commodity.

Other opposition legislators also resorted to a protest inside the House in support of their colleague staging a sit-in against water scarcity in his constituency. The lawmakers raised slogans against the government and tore the copies of the PA session’s agenda. Some of the protesting lawmakers stood up on their chairs with their shoes still on, as they demanded that the government provide water to the deprived parts of the city.
