PHEC to curb sale of theses

LAHORE: Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has formed a committee to deliberate and find ways to curb the sale of theses of MS and PhDs in Punjab.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the PHEC have already formed a four-member committee to probe the matter. Tree plantation: Lahore Deputy Commissioner Sumair Ahmed Syed Thursday inaugurated tree plantation drive by planting a tree in the premises of DC office.

A special ceremony was held in DC office in this regard. The ADCR, ADC (G), ADC (headquarters) and officials of forest department Punjab attended the ceremony. The officer of forest department briefed the Deputy Commissioner about the plantation drive.

Sumair said some two lakh plants of various types would be planted in schools of the city under smog mitigation campaign. More than thirty thousand plants would be provided to each zone of the city for plantation, he said. He also appealed the citizens to plant plants in their homes to minimise the pollution.

Reinstated: The Punjab government has reinstated former Punjab Land Record Authority Board of Revenue director operations Rao Nadeem Akhtar. Services & General Administration Department has issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.

World Book Day: In order to observe World Book Day, Punjab University (PU) Department of Information Management and PU Library will organise a seminar on “Role of Reading in Personality Development” today (Friday) at Al-Raazi Hall.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar will be the chief guest while Punjab Commission on Women Development Chairperson Dr Fouzia Waqar, Abbas Tabish and Rehman Faris will speak on the event.

UVAS: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised mMini sports gala at UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki.

According to a press release, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I) along with Dr Kazim Raza Chohan presided over the concluding ceremony and distributed cash prizes among the winners. Prof Dr Athar Mahmood, Ravi Campus Senior Tutor Dr Noor Khan, faculty members and students were present on the occasion.

PHP: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) DIG Ghulam Mahmood Dogar visited the under-construction PHP Provincial Police Lines, Jia Bagga alongwith PHP Buildings DSP Naveeda Hameed and DSP Tahir Iqbal Warraich. He also planted a plant under tree plantation drive at patrolling post Jia bagga.

Ghulam Mahmood Dogar visited the site to examine the quality of construction work. Building Department SDO Saba Rana, Sub Engineer Fazal Mahmood and Contractor Zahoor Ahmad were also present during the visit. They briefed the DIG about the construction work. DIG showed satisfaction over the quality and pace of work.

Restaurant gutted: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were burnt when a fire erupted at a restaurant on MM Alam Road on Thursday. No casualty was reported in the incident. Rescue 1122 put out the fire.

blackmailer: The Cyber Crime Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday arrested an alleged blackmailer Omer Anjum from Faisal Town against a complaint moved by one Saima Khan.

A team comprising AD Muhammad Usman, SI Ashir Aroon, FC Tanvir, FC Babar Waris and Constable Sarfraz under the supervision of a deputy director raided in Faisal Town and arrested the accused.

The team recovered pictures and videos of the complainnat from Omer’s mobile phone and USB. A case has been registered against the accused.
