The general elections of Pakistan are only months away. Like most political parties, the PPP is also setting its strategies to win the upcoming elections . In the past elections, the PPP managed to remain limited to Sindh. This was a step backwards for the party that formed federal government in the 2008 elections. Only time will tell what will happen in the upcoming elections. Let’s have a look at how the PPP performed in the recent past. The Badin district was the test case for it during the last local elections where the party failed against the Dr Zulfiqar Mirza-supported candidates. According to some media reports, Gul Muhammad Khan Jakhrani has been sent to Badin to clear the ground for the PPP.
Although all local landowners and influential personalities of the area are already in the PPP, the party is afraid of Mirza’s support. The point is that a few years back, people had no choice but to accept the PPP. This is because the party was the only option. Now, people have alternatives. Parties like the Tabdeeli Pasand Party (TPP) and the PTI are working hard to influence people to vote for them. This year, Badin is the litmus test district of Sindh. Let us hope that we don’t choose nepotism and corruption, but break the status quo of the party that has been plundering Sindh for years.
