Broken promises
The PML-N has vowed to bifurcate Punjab if it is re-elected in the next elections. This echoes an old and unfulfilled promise that the party made before the 2013 elections to secure votes from neglected districts of the province. It has now become crystal clear that rulers from Lahore and Gujrat have predominantly concentrated on ensuring development in the northern districts of Punjab.
In addition, lawmakers from other districts are responsible for the lack of development of their respected districts. Amid these challenges, the bifurcation of Punjab into four provinces seems to be the appropriate solution. Districts should be given an option to join the adjacent province. All decisions should be taken through a referendum.
