No progress in probe into firing at Justice Ahsan’s house: CJP
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday said there was no progress as yet in the probe into the firing at the Supreme Court judge's residence despite passage of one day, according to Geo News report.
“I am looking into the incidents of firing at the Lahore residence of Justice Ijazul Ahsan. There is no development in the investigations as yet,” the chief justice remarked while hearing a case related to the Football Federation of Pakistan.
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed on Sunday to probe the firing incidents at Justice Ahsan’s residence. SP Model Town on Monday submitted an initial report to the IG Punjab and newly-constituted Joint Investigation Team (JIT) about the firing incident at the residence of Justice Ijazul Ahsan in the Model Town area on Sunday.
According to the report, the first bullet was fired at 10:45pm on Saturday which hit the upper collar of the main gate of the house. The Supreme Court judge had reached home six minutes before the incident.
Rangers official deputed at the residence informed the policeman that soon after the incident, DIG Operations reached the scene and collected the fired bullet from the scene. The other bullet was recovered from near kitchen. The maid had informed about the second bullet.
At least four jawans of Rangers and five policemen were deputed at the said home. Police have been checking the CCTV footage collected from the area. The JIT, headed by DIG Sultan Chaudhry, had also started pa robe into the incident. It is yet to ascertain whether it was a stray bullet or it was aimed at the judge and his family.
Punjab Forensic Science Agency has also been examining the evidence to trace out the culprits. They had collected data, taken photographs and bullet slugs for examination. The crime scene unit, in its preliminary spatial observations, suggested that this could be a stray bullet on final stage of its parabolic trajectory fired from a distance.
Fire Arms and Tool Marks Department of PFSA will also determine the direction and distance of the shot fired by some unknown suspects. Police have also started search operations in the Model Town division to arrest the suspects. The Punjab chief minister also held a meeting with IG, JIT members and the chief secretary to review progress in the investigation of firing incident. He tasked the investigation team to trace out suspects at the earliest.
