A 38-year-old man was shot by two robbers when he resisted their bid to snatch his motorcycle near New Chali. Mithadar SHO Nisar Awan said newspaper hawker Jameel Ahmed was returning to his depot when the robbers intercepted him and tried to deprive him of his two-wheeler.

The victim was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him safe after performing surgery. In another incident, a 20-year-old man was injured by two outlaws for blocking their mugging attempt bear Valika Hospital.

SITE-A police station officials said Wasifullah, son of Shaukat Khan, was attacked by two bike-riders at Hassan Rice Mill near Valika Hospital. They said the victim suffered a bullet wound to his leg, and he was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him safe after surgery.

A 60-year-old man, Haq Nawaz, son of Rab Nawaz, was shot and injured by muggers for showing resistance to their cash-snatching attempt in Baldia-III, said Madina Colony police SHO Shafique Shah.

He said the man was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment where doctors declared him safe after performing surgery. Separately, a 19-year-old young man was shot for putting up resistance to robbers when the latter tried to rob him of his mobile phone. He was identified as Shahzad, son of Muhammad Bux, but Pak Colony police SHO Aziz Shafique said police were trying to collect details about the victim.

Rise in street crime

Street crime has become a mega issue of the city despite the fact that law enforcers have brought down incidents of target killings, terrorism, extortion and kidnappings for ransom over the past four years of a targeted operation.

The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released statistics for the month of March 2018, and according to the data, 27 four-wheelers were snatched and 103 cars were stolen last month, while 14 four-wheelers were snatched and 90 cars had been stolen in March 2017.
