Twin cities saved from terrorism
Islamabad: In a big breakthrough, the federal capital police, with the collaboration of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies, have recovered a huge quantity of terrorism material, including suicide jackets, explosives, hand grenades and pistols, police sources told ‘The News’ here on Saturday.
The material was placed beside a nullah bridge behind a petrol pump, near Chungi No. 26, falling in the jurisdiction of Golra Police Station, for the execution of terrorism plan, the people engaged in the investigation of the case said. They said: “Such quantity of explosive material was enough to target any building, VVIP convoy or other installations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The material was packed in three sacks. Personnel of Special Branch of Islamabad police noticed 3 sacks lying behind YZ CNG pump beside a nullah bridge near Chungi No. 26, the police sources said and added, he checked the suspicious sacks and found explosives and other material.
He immediately informed his high ups about the material. Heavy contingent of police, Rangers and intelligence agency’s personnel reached the scene and cordoned off the area after calling bomb disposal squad. The BDS confirmed the presence of explosives packed in three sacks.
Two Suicide jackets, eight kilogram explosive material, five hand grenades, four loaded magazines, two 30 bore pistols, nine batteries, 80 feet Prima cord, 12 kilogram Ball bearings and four switches were recovered from the sacks.
SP Zubair Shaikh, Head of Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) while talking to this correspondent confirmed the incident saying that it was a big achievement of the Islamabad police, which saved the twin-cities.
He said that the suspects involved in the terrorism plan, would be traced out by using Safe-City cameras.
Officials engaged in the investigation said that this aspect could not be ruled out that a group of terrorist were running a factory for preparing suicide jacks or explosives in the surrounding areas of Chungi No, 26. Grand search operation has been started in and around the area, the sources said.
